Inner Mongolia News  2007-03-08 09:45

ACCRA, March 7 (Xinhua) -- Ghanaian President John Kuffour on Wednesday hailed Ghana-China cooperation when meeting Abdul'ahat Abdulrixit, the special envoy of Chinese President Hu Jintao at the presidential castle.

Ghana has enjoyed long-term cooperation with China, the relationship between the two countries is long-standing and has developed from strength to strength, Kuffour said.

Not only Ghana but also many nations in Africa "are willing to cooperate with China for the development of the continent," according to the president.

Kuffour thanked Abdulrixit's presence to the ceremony of Ghana's 50th anniversary of independence, which were held on Tuesday in the Independence Square in capital city of Accra.

Abdulrixit congratulated Kuffour on the success of the independence ceremony and conveyed greetings from Chinese President Hu Jintao.

Abdul'ahat Abdulrixit, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, China's top advisory body, arrived here on Monday and attended the celebration on Tuesday.

Under the charismatic pan-African leader Kwame Nkrumah, the former British colony of Gold Coast obtained independence in 1957,triggering a wave of independence movements and liberation struggles across the continent.
